HUAWEI Band 7 and FreeBuds SE: Unboxing and First Impression
It's kind of disorienting when you think about our situation today vs this time last year. We've had a taste of normalcy in the past few months and are slowly returning to old normal (with a mask on at all times!) In my case, I've already returned to the office and taking this opportunity to squeeze in some cardio by walking to and from the office.
My two constants during this daily routine? A dependable smart band and audio wearable to always keep me in the loop may it be in terms of wellness, entertainment, or communication. It was timely getting the new Huawei Band 7 and Freebuds SE as I try to establish sustainable habits.
Unboxing
Both the new IoT products from the Chinese tech giant came in their signature white packaging with the product image and main features in front of the box. The Huawei Band 7 I got is in the Graphite Black colorway while the FreeBuds SE I received is the white version.
The Huawei Band 7 includes the unit itself, the charging cable and cradle, and the User Guide & Safety Information & Warranty Card.
On the other hand, the FreeBuds SE came with the earbuds, charging case, ear tip-3 pairs (Available in large, medium, and small), Quick Start Guide, Safety Information, and Warranty Card USB-C cable.
First Impression
Let's begin with the Huawei Band 7. The first thing I noticed is how lightweight this smart band is. I've been wearing the Huawei Watch 3 for quite some time and trying this for the first time gave my wrist a much-needed breather. I'm a lover of big watch faces but I might make an exception on times I ride the bike.
It also houses features for everyday needs—from workout-related and wellness options to features you won't think are useful until you try them for yourself like the remote shutter, flashlight, and Find Phone features.
Pairing it with my Huawei P50 Pocket was a breeze. I was able to add the Huawei Band 7 to the Huawei Health app in no time and it enabled me to tinker around with the smart band settings like watch faces, notification settings, and more.
On to the FreeBuds SE, it comes with a clamshell-type of packaging which to me is easier to clean and maintain. Also, compared to the FreeBuds 4i, its dedicated function button is hidden inside the charging case. It comes in a glossy finish making it prone to scratches in the near future so extra precaution is highly advised. It also has a provision in the front part of the case (just above the light indicator) so that it's easier to open.
As for the earbuds, its core design looks more modern compared to other FreeBuds likely because of its rounded stem. Its lightweight fit also made it possible for me to stay locked into my go-to playlist all afternoon. I liked how the silicone ear tips came in grey color instead of white to give the earbuds extra character.
Specific to its sound, its semi in-ear design made it possible for me to lessen the ambient noise around me and focus on the dialogues of the series I'm watching. Playing games on mobile is more immersive because of the low latency between the earbuds and the phone.
