The Art House Brings Amorsolo to Life in “HIRAYA” Exhibit

by - Wednesday, October 19, 2022

The Art House, a creative multi-channel platform, has partnered with the Fernando C. Amorsolo Art Foundation to commemorate the 50th death anniversary of the “Grand Old Man of Philippine Art” through “HIRAYA”, a well-curated exhibit of 50 Filipino artists inspired by the works of Amorsolo on October 21-23, 2022 at the South Court of the Power Plant Mall, Rockwell, Makati City.

Amorsolo is iconic for his paintings of illuminated landscapes which often portrayed pastoral Filipino life and was deemed important to the formation of Filipino national identity. He was honored as the first recipient of the prestigious Order of National Artists of the Philippines almost immediately after his death in 1972. The Art House is celebrating his legacy by inviting fifty artists like Martin Honasan, Tam Austria, even including those from Amorsolo’s own family, and personalities like Solenn Heussaff and JC Intal who have created their own unique interpretations of the National Artist’s visual and artistic style. This highlights The Art House’s drive to poignantly tell the tale of our rich artistic culture to help reconnect the younger generation to the origins of Philippine art.

This also marks the beginning of the long-term partnership between The Art House and the Fernando C. Amorsolo Art Foundation, a cornerstone of the platform’s celebration of its first anniversary. The partnership is expected to help propel its goals of introducing emerging artists to the new and young investor market to develop products and experiences using local art as a way to further promote the talent and culture of Filipinos today. No better way than to look back and pay homage to pioneering historical figures in local art starting with Maestro Amorsolo himself whose name has put the Philippines on the global art map where his works routinely fetch prices in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, reaching a record of $882,251 for “Mango Gatherers” sold in 2018.

A by-invitation only opening reception of “HIRAYA” will be held in the South Court area of the Power Plant Mall (near ZARA) on October 21, 2022, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Featured in the event is a rarely-seen self-portrait of Amorsolo from the family collection. The public can then view the artworks from 6:30 PM to 10:00 PM and from October 22 - 23 from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. The exhibit will be for the benefit of the victims of Typhoon Odette through the ABS-CBN Foundation.
