“L’Oréal Brandstorm was really my biggest achievement out of all the case competitions I joined in College because it exposed me to different technology and innovations at a global scale, all while I was in the city of lights! This program really helped me jumpstart my career in L’Oréal Philippines as I am currently a junior product manager for two years and running,” shared Annika Bautista, part of the Philippines’ 2019 Brandstorm Team.

Guia Peralta, Management Trainee of L’Oréal Philippines adds, “Joining Brandstorm back in college was really a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me, and all the hard work and effort was worth it. My greatest achievement after winning L’Oréal Brandstorm 2019 was when I started working in L’Oréal and was assigned a major project by my mentors to execute mega-campaigns in eCommerce platforms. This turned out to be a huge success for the company, and I’m genuinely excited to be part of the success of our future campaigns."

When asked about the advice they wanted to impart to aspiring students longing to embark on this once-in-a-lifetime journey, Bautista and Peralta share that it’s all about working smart and hard, plus making sure that you choose the right teammates that will complement each one’s strengths and personalities.

Bautista adds, “Always think from a consumer's perspective and how the solution can work for them. Find compelling solutions and layout a clear plan. For us, it was about addressing the concerns of someone struggling with eczema. There’s a lot of inspiration out there, and it’s just about synergizing them and making them work to your advantage, and in response to the problem at hand.”

The winning team will get to develop their project through an immersive intrapreneurial mission and all-expense-paid internship at the L’Oréal head office in Paris.

Brandstorm 2020 in figures:
  • 47,800 registered participants, including 12,700 engineers
  • 65 countries represented
  • 99.5% of participants declared they would recommend participating in Brandstorm
Over the past years, Brandstorm has morphed from a marketing competition into a disruptive tech challenge, mirroring L’Oréal’s own ambition to become a “BeautyTech Company.”

What makes this 2021 edition of Brandstorm unique?

  • It will be immersive and digitally-driven
  • L’Oréal’s digital experts will mentor the students, offering them the benefit of years of experience in the world of retail and e-commerce, challenging their ideas, and making this an enriching and memorable experience.
For the first time, students have a choice of three subtopics to work on:
#1 invent new products or services
#2 invent new business models
#3 invent new experiences inspired by the entertainment trend

The finalists will have the opportunity to pitch their projects to a jury composed of L’Oréal Executive Committee members such as Barbara Lavernos, Executive Vice-President Chief Technology and Operations Officer, Lubomira Rochet, Chief Digital Officer, and Jean-Claude Le Grand, Executive Vice-President, Human Relations.

The winning team will receive the L’Oréal Intrapreneurship Award and will have the opportunity to develop their project during an immersive mission in Paris at the L’Oréal headquarters and at Station F, the world’s largest startup campus. Hands-on guidance will be provided by L’Oréal’s digital experts and several external stakeholders from the company’s global tech ecosystem, including the ModiFace team, a global leader in AR and AI for the beauty industry.
