On Living Life Actively: My Two Latest Quarantine Must-Haves

by - Friday, October 15, 2021

"You're still on your adjustment period." I always tell myself when this phrase when things don't go my way after I moved out of my parents' house. There are just too many things to think about all at the same time—work, maintaining the household, taking care of a dog, and blogging.

That fine morning where I ride a bike to Alabang wearing the Huawei Watch 3

I'm at that awkward learning stage again where I had to deal with keeping up with my to-do list all at the same time without snapping. My realization? The past four months of quarantine-ing alone made me think that I can continue to enjoy the things that I love doing if I keep moving. As they say, physical activity is not only good for the body but is also good for the mind.

The arrival of the Huawei Watch 3 and Scale 3 Pro was timely because I finally said to Jonas' invitation to bike in Alabang one Sunday morning. My predisposition whenever he invites me to ride the bike is to say no because of all sorts of reasons. However, I said yes this time because I want to scratch the travel itch (this time with a bike). Add to that the fact that I'm feeling sluggish lately as supported by the Huawei Health Analysis Report where it said I was overweight after checking my weight at the Scale 3 Pro.

For context, this Huawei Scale 3 Pro weighing scale has eight dual-frequency electrodes equipped with upgraded measurement algorithms which enable the device to produce professional-grade full-body measurements on losing fat, gaining muscle, and leading a more active life. The scale utilizes the retractable built-in hand sensor to measure the upper limbs and the tempered glass panel for the rest.

It's the smartest (and most elegant-looking btw) weighing scale I've ever tried because it automatically syncs its findings and produces a comprehensive analysis after the weigh-in via WiFi and Bluetooth. I was even able to utilize the Visitor Mode when my friends came over and got curious about how the Scale 3 Pro works. The best thing about it is that I was able to share with them the report moments after their weigh-in, too.

Huawei Watch 3

The Huawei Watch 3 is like a smartphone on its own. Back to the part where Jonas and I went for a ride, this watch was able to keep me updated with my phone notifications through Bluetooth while my phone was safely kept in my fanny pack. It can also receive calls and answer them while on loudspeaker which is awesome! (especially during those unexpected moments where I'm not expecting a call from anyone)

Before starting our ride, I made sure to track it by going to the workout app on the watch and chose the Outdoor cycle in the options. Afterward, it searches for the GPS and gives you an option to start the exercise with or without it. I had to wait for a minute or two before it successfully finds the GPS. Mind you, the watch doesn't need to be connected to the smartphone to be able to track workouts. Hooray for not using data and saving your phone's battery at the same time!

As for its built, it's on the heavier side because of its stainless steel + ceramic build. Regardless, I'm used to wearing steel watches, so this wasn't really a big issue for me.

Activating the Ultra-long Battery Life mode

We were practically riding around the Alabang area the whole day which is why the watch's battery went critically low that I had to turn on the Ultra-long Battery Life mode. It drastically extended the battery life of the watch and I was still able to track the ride until we reach our final destination in Westgate Alabang.

One of the cool things that I realized after ending the ride is that the route is included in the workout record. Thanks to the Watch 3's built-in GPS! It also notified me of my milestone via its speaker during the ride which motivates me to push through even on times that I wanted to stop midway.

My takeaway from this article? I WANT MY OWN BIKE. Just kidding. lol Hitting two birds at the same time (discovering new places and working out) allowed me to become active not just physically but also mentally. I was able to make active choices which resulted in a better, happier me. It was also through the Huawei Scale 3 Pro and Watch 3 that inspired me to get up and start moving. I'm glad I chose to wake up early that day and was back in the saddle literally and figuratively.
