Huawei Film Awards: US$20,000 awaits best film

by - Friday, February 21, 2020

I can still remember how giddy I felt after getting my own mobile gimbal a few years ago. After a few tries, it made me realize how we can further empower smartphones, especially in filmmaking. I’m genuinely amazed by the fact that I can produce high-quality travel vlogs with the help of a gadget that can conveniently fit my pocket.

While I don’t have a knack for filmmaking, I know a few of you who are down to push your filmmaking skills to the next level. Here’s your shot at showcasing that story you’ve always wanted to shoot and earning from it at the same time!

The HUAWEI Film Awards is an Asia Pacific festival dedicated to celebrating work shot on any HUAWEI mobile phone, to uncover and support the talents of tomorrow. The evolutionary HUAWEI phones have empowered filmmakers, expanding their scope and freedom to create breathtaking films.

The winner in the “APAC Best Film” category will receive the grand prize of USD20,000. The HUAWEI Film Awards is now open for entries, and you have until 25th February 2020 at 11.59pm (GMT+8) to submit your short film.

To set an example of how one can empower possibilities, HUAWEI invited renowned director Pepe Diokno to create his own film using only the brand’s flagship phone - the Mate 30 Pro.

His short film, called “Things”, is beautiful beyond words that even the HUAWEI team thought he used a commercial camera to shoot some of the scenes. His passion for directing stood out in the picture even if the entire film is shot entirely with a smartphone.
