My 2017 Techie Goals!

by - Saturday, December 31, 2016

2016 went by so fast, yes? Projects and tasks went hand in hand on my end that I realized how under-equipped I was in terms of gadgets and instruments.

As a content creator, I am always striving to create materials that are new and unconventional. (Believe me, I'm really trying) That's why I decided to invest in two major gadgets that I know I'll be utilizing this coming year..

FUJIFILM X-T10 WITH 18-55mm LENS

I admit it! I was a victim of Fujifilm's post about their Php 6,000 off on their cameras. lol To be fair though, I was eyeing a Fujifilm X-A2 this time last year because I badly want to convert from DSLR to mirrorless. God is so good because finally, I was able to get a Fujifilm X-T10 right before 2016 ends. Talk about upgrade!

Being surrounded by Fujifilm ambassadors online, I can tell that the photos they produce online are A+. I know, it's not the camera but the one who uses it, right? Now that I have a great camera onhand, there's no reason for me to produce bad photos on my blog. (That's the real goal!)

Now that I have a new camera, I'm letting go of my Nikon D3100 DSLR Camera. You can hit me up at pattyvillegas2015@gmail.com for details. ;)

DJI OSMO MOBILE

I know you'll agree if I say that this year has been a great year for video bloggers. With the impressive contents that they put up online, they inspired me to create lifestyle and travel videos on my channel (check some of my works here). I usually go around town with my iPhone 6, that's why I figured out that it's wise to invest in a DJI Osmo Mobile.

I was first introduced to this product back when I listened to Sir Carlo Ople's talk about content creation at the Smart Launchpad event for aspiring YouTubers (Rappler was streaming it via YouTube). With the greatness himself vouching on what this product is capable of, I just knew I had to get one for myself.

With the few months that I've been using it, I can tell that it's a fun gadget to play around with. The videos you can produce with a good smartphone is actually topnotch! Just keep in mind what the manual says, "This is a sophisticated product". THEY REALLY MEAN IT.

Now here comes the great part! Since 2017 is a year of Upskilling (for me), I listed below three of my tech goals which I plan to purchase next year.

Life can get in the way but I will do my best!

I'm excited and nervous at the same time because this means less splurges and more saving for me. Eeeeck!

FUJINON XF35mm F1.4 R

After a good camera body, a good all around lens is my next goal so that I can be more flexible with my photos. Don't get me wrong though, the 18-55mm kit lens that I currently I have is good enough, but I would still be needing a prime lens that can produce a realistic vantage point of the swatches and products that I review. Talking about versatility, this product can do portraits, travel, macro and wedding photography. I CAN'T WAIT TO OWN ONE, TBH!

The FUJINON XF35mm F1.4 R is valued for Php 23,875 at Lazada.

FOLDIO2

Patty Villegas - The Lifestyle Wanderer - My 2017 Techie Goals - 1

For a little background, OrangeMonkie created a kickstarter project called Foldio. Foldio is an all-in-one pop-up studio that you can use to shoot products using a smartphone or DSLR.

What makes this item unique aside from its portability? It has LED light strips (with diffuser), back drops that come in different colors, and a Foldio app where you can customize your phone camera's setting. You can even do chroma / green screen set-up with this mini studio!

Since I relied on smartphone photography for almost a year, one of the main challenges on taking photos using my phone is when the sun's about to set. If there's one thing I will never do with any smartphone cameras, it's to never shoot subjects at night. You can easily tell how noisy the photos are when taken with low light resource.

With the Foldio2, I'll be more confident to take sharp photos of subjects whether I'm using my smartphone or camera at any convenient place and time.

The Foldio2 is valued for Php 4,490 at Henry's Professional.

iPHONE LIGHTNING TO USB CABLE

Patty Villegas - The Lifestyle Wanderer - My 2017 Techie Goals - 2

Because iPhone owners cannot have just one cable, right? This will be my 3rd cable (including the original) if ever I'll be getting one in 2017. For the 2nd cable that I had, I experienced my phone reaching only until its 88% that's why I badly need a replacement already. You know how there are stuff that you badly want but feel guilty whenever you purchase it? (One because its freaking expensive??) Yes, iPhone cables are one of them.

I wish I can just crash into a hotel I previously checked-in and claimed that I lost my iPhone cord on my room so that they can replace it with another one. (Here's a fact: They're the most common left item in a hotel room. lol)

Do you feel like getting these items for the year, too? Let's all go back to this list by the end of 2017 and see if we are able to reach all these three items!

Wishing all the wanderers out there a prosperous new year ahead of you. <3
