What I learned from spinning for the first time

by - Tuesday, May 01, 2018

It's fun realizing that we've gone out from the traditional thread-mill-and-lifts kind of workout. Nowadays, there are different variations of the typical exercises to make workouts more exciting. And one of them is spinning.

In celebration of the comeback of the Tuna Pie, Jollibee made the start of my summer an exciting one when they treat me to an indoor cycling, also known as spinning, together with other online media personalities at Ride Revolution in Steps Dance Studio, Poblacion, Makati City.  😍

With regards to my expectations in my first ever spinning class, I highly think that I can survive class because I can somehow ride into a rhythm knowing that I can somehow dance. What's bugging me is that I can't remember the last time I did cardio that's why I opted to just enjoy what's ahead of me and not pressure myself to release my maximum potential.

Going inside the Ride Rev studio, I saw a lot of enthusiastic people ready to give their all-out energy to the class. Being an occasional introvert, I got a little intimidated until I saw familiar faces. Good thing my friends helped me relieve my anxiety as they narrate their past experiences. At this point, I was optimistic that I can finish my first ever indoor cycling session.

Another thing that I observed inside the studio is the discipline among the riders. From the time of arrival, registration, down to surrendering the phone prior to the ride. I was told that classes in Ride Rev start on time that's why participants need to arrive early.

Before the classes started, Edd, a new instructor in Ride Revolution, approached us to help us on our bikes and also provided some helpful tips when riding the stationary bike. I didn't feel the intensity of the activity until the lights went dim and the instructor started the workout.

Aside from the high-intensity interval training (HIIT) on the bike, the instructor also uttered some inspirational quotes from time to time to get us going. I found myself dying after 15 minutes because of how fast-paced this workout is. haha I still tried my best to get back on track though and finish what I started.

Don't attempt to look for me! I am settled somewhere in the back. HAHA

Hooray for my first-ever Ride Rev class photo!
The best part of the class is finally grabbing our post-workout meal, the Jollibee Tuna Pie. It was an awesome reward given the fact that the 50-minute really drained the hell out of me. Its cheesy, creamy tuna filling, in a crispy golden pie crust, brought back the energy I've lost from the workout without feeling too guilty. It was a good way to end the class! 😛

The Jollibee Tuna Pie is available for dine-in, delivery, drive thru or take-out for only P45.00 (solo). It can also be enjoyed with a regular drink for P59.00 or with a drink and another meat-less favorite, the Jolly Crispy Fries for only P89.00! Trio packs for sharing- or hoarding - are also available for P 130.00.

Indoor cycling is more than a trendy workout. It cultivates a community of positive and enthusiastic people who aim to be stronger physically, socially, emotionally and mentally with the help of a stationary bike.

Also, Time is of the essence when you book a ride because slots are limited and the sessions start on time. I've realized the value of time when taking their sessions after receiving texts and calls from the PR, asking me my whereabouts.

During the class, not only did I discover new tunes to listen to, I left the room with a big smile on my face because I've also been conditioned mentally. My adrenaline is at its peak that I've also done other things later on that day.

If you ask me if I'll spin again in the future, yes I definitely will! The biggest hurdle I guess is the proximity of the studio from my place and my diet. Since I live in the south, the nearest studio from my place would be at Shangri-La Plaza which is still out-of-the-way from home.

Also, if I'm to pursue riding in the future, I hope to define first the best diet to compliment my workout. Because to be able to become fit, diet and exercise should both be present in the picture. 😊
