ASUS Zenfone 4 Selfie Lite Review

by - Saturday, November 04, 2017

For those who are on the hunt for a bang-for-buck mobile phone that will take your selfie game to the next level, ASUS Philippines beefs up its renowned selfie line-up with their latest phone called ZENFONE 4 SELFIE LITE.

AESTHETICS

A few weeks ago, I was delighted to unbox the new Zenfone 4 Selfie Lite with some of you on Facebook. If you weren't able to catch it, below is the video of the Facebook Live video so you can check out my first impressions of this ASUS phone. 😉

Just want to give a shoutout to those who joined and supported me on my first ever Facebook Live!! I literally had no idea on how to execute it the best way possible. However, you guys stayed and gave me company all throughout the session. Much love! 💕

During my live video, we all witnessed firsthand how classy and sophisticated this new phone from the Zenfone 4 line up is. Its metallic finish didn't make me think it's actually lightweight. At first, I thought it was designed with plastic, hell I was wrong.

I also stressed how much I like phones with big screen displays, like the ASUS Zenfone 4 Selfie Lite. This unit comes with 5.5-inch HD display and 2.5D curved glass display for best screen protection. Given my lifestyle, watching videos online is a must that's why big phone displays make watching or streaming videos extra entertaining.

A noticeable difference of the Selfie Lite among other Zenfone 4 units is the location of its 3.5mm audio port input. It is located at the top part of the phone (just beside the built-in microphone) while the micro-USB port and 5-magnet speaker retains at the bottom part.

DISPLAY AND PERFORMANCE

Like the ASUS Zenfone 4 Selfie Pro, this phone also comes with built-in applications that most of us use on a daily basis like Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Google Apps, and Instagram.

Since the phone's core competency is focused on its camera, I figured it may lack in other aspects. For its performance, the ZenFone 4 Selfie Lite is running on Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor with 2GB RAM. (This is expandable to 16GB ROM!)

While I can function normally with this phone, I still find it a little sluggish sometimes whenever I multitask across different apps at the same time. Heavy Spotify user here! 😅

CAMERA

Because there is also a softlight LED selfie flash on the front camera, I tend to confuse one over the other. I had to tell myself that the camera is the one in the right. lol

Within three weeks of using this phone, I decided to put the camera to a test on different light setups. Check out what I came up with! 😊

With the Zenfone 4 Selfie Lite's price point, it comes with competitive front and rear camera that can keep up with your daily selfie and wefie. Here are just some points that I observed upon trying it out in different light setups:

*Natural light or a bright artificial light provides the best photo quality!
(I know this is a rule of photography in general! haha)

* Selfie photos come a little bit grainy on indoor locations with a minimal light setup.
Regardless, details of the photo still come out crisp.

*The Portrait mode can be utilized in a perfect light setup as well and
doesn't work with people in the background.

*The Beauty mode is kept to a minimum to provide a natural glow
and blemish-free au naturel look.

*The GIF mode is fun to play with! I find this helpful in uploading quick wacky GIFs
on Twitter. Hahaha

Unless your using your photos for commercial purposes, the two cameras of the ZenFone 4 Selfie Lite provides good quality photos. On the con part, it easily adjusts to the light source making you more alert to tapping the screen to fix your focus point. (Applies to front and rear camera)

The beauty mode is such a savior because I find myself going out with no makeup these days. I feel less confident doing IG story videos just because I'm not wearing my no-makeup makeup look. However, the Beauty mode saved me tons of times because I can easily adjust the filters (whether I'm taking a photo or video) and project on the camera like how I would normally do it.

VERDICT

Going back to the first paragraph of this blog post, I think ASUS did well in creating a bang-for-buck smartphone to cater to the vast selfie lovers in the country. For the price of Php 7995, it wins at the huge display and functional camera combination. The Beautification feature is also a win for people like me who don't wear makeup often but wants/needs to expose oneself on social media most of the time. 😅
