Anecdotes of Turning 22

by - Monday, May 16, 2016

It's not just a feeling anymore, I already turned 22 last May 11. Welp! Even though it's kind of late, I want to write everything down so that this blog post will appear in my timehop in the future. lol

But really, jotting all these happenings will make me reminisce the moments and the feeling when the following people (from the past and present) remembered and shared their love as I add another year to my existence.

Living more than twenty years so far taught me that life is meant to be imperfect and that I should strive in this mad world we live in. Days ago before my day, I even uttered to myself the hardship of being an adult: the responsibility that comes with all kinds of freedom and upgrading of skill set (to mention some).

But since it's my birthday, I knew that I had to live in the moment for a bit and treat myself for a job well done.

Here's a story: I've played the guitar since 6th grade until college. However, I had to stop playing during my junior year in college because I got preoccupied with school works. Then lately, I realized that I wanna rekindle my love for music and bug Jonas about it.

May 7 came and I got my first surprise. Jonas led me to his bachelor's nook and gave his early birthday gift. Guess what, he bought me a guitar and we named it Merunda. So much for a good name, right? lol

That night, we felt nostalgic and played all the songs we grew up with. My Herione, Stars, Your Call, Your Guardian Angel, Remembering Sunday, even Narda was in our set list. We also laughed about the fact that we had to check the tabs at Ultimate Guitar online. Surprisingly, the website is still up and running. Indeed, it was a great night with my bae. <3

Come May 11, I didn't expect much from anyone since all I planned for this day is to take Jonas to dinner. Little did I know that this will be one of the most memorable birthday celebrations I'll ever have.

On this day, I made sure to take my newest baby for a spin. This Save My Bag Houndstooth Hippy Joy is part of Kiana Valenciano's Little White Box Collection launched last April 28. What I really love about this bag is that it's made of neoprene plus it's very handy and chic!

Over lunch time, my officemates at 1DMG surprised me with a Tiramisu cake from Purple Oven. It's the first birthday celebration at work. I felt much appreciated the moment they went up the pantry and hand me this cake. Much love to the people behind 1DMG! <3

Around noon, I got a call from a guard saying that I have a delivery from Starbucks Philippines. Yes, they also surprised me with a personalized birthday cake and a Starbucks card. Starbucks PH truly knows how to make someone's day special!

After work, I met with Jonas at McKinley to eat dinner at Yakimix. As usual, we haven't decided where to eat up until we reached Alabang Town Center. Well, what I love about our relationship is that we can be as impulsive with our food choices and just enjoy each other's company with our tummy being fulfilled.

I went straight home after dinner and figured out that my mom granted my wish. I was welcomed by an authentic Carbonara with Fried Chicken by the dining table. Oh the simple joys in life..

I thought this was the end of my birthday celebration, but I was wrong.

The day after, I attended a board meeting for psst.ph with some of good blogger friends. Kathy, the Editor-in-Chief of psst.ph is being her usual self except the fact that she didn't greeted me on my birthday. I thought to myself, of all people to not greet me on my birthday, I didn't thought that she'll be one of them. But I was wrong. Little did I know, she asked the staff of Crystal Jade to surprise me just before we end our meeting that night.

It's the first time that I got a birthday surprise in a Chinese restaurant that's why I honestly have no idea what my complimentary birthday dessert is. Later on, I found out that in the plate are 4 "longevity" buns (with salted egg inside) and a mango jelly. This is so unique and delicious for my taste buds at the same time.

Lastly, I wouldn't miss the chance to keep the tradition alive and have a birthday celebration with my high school friends. I'm glad that they found time to visit me given the strict schedule that we all have. We lasted all night drinking, sharing stories, playing uno cards, jenga and cards against humanity. Hope the streak for every high school friend's birthday celebration will last a lifetime. Lol

I've never gotten so much surprises in my birthday. My 22th bday celebration made me feel how lucky and blessed I am to be surrounded by people who truly cares and believes in what I'm capable of. I may not have fulfilled my birthday wish yet but I know the Big Guy up there got plans ahead of me.

Right now, this is my most memorable birthday celebration yet.
