Virtual Tour at the Calvary Hills at the North

by - Friday, April 18, 2014

Holy Week is the sacred time of the year where Christians commemorate the suffering of Jesus Christ. Being a Christian, it has been a routine for me to at least remember the last week of Jesus' life here on earth.

Just last January, together with some friends, we visited the Calvary Hills also known as the Holy Land of the North found at Iguig, Cagayan Valley. This trip is 45 minutes-1 hour ride from Tuguegarao City. This will be a good pilgrimage site to locals who want to look for a place to reflect.

The Iguig Church which is dedicated to its Patron St. James, was built using red bricks way back 1765-1787. During Holy Week, this place has an estimated number of 400,000 last year.

Beside the church, you can see the entrance of the 11 hectare Calvary Hills where you can see the 14 life-sized statuary of the stations of the cross depicting Jesus Christ' suffering before his death in Mount Calvary.

First Station: Jesus is condemned to death

Second Station: Jesus receives the Cross

Third Station: Jesus falls the first time under His Cross

Fourth station: Jesus meets His afflicted mother

Fifth Station: Simon of Cyrene help Christ carry His Cross

Eight station: Jesus speaks to the women of Jerusalem

Ninth Station: Jesus falls the third time

May this Holy Week help you reflect on your way of living. Have a blessed week everyone!
